Exercise and Stress Relief.
A condition of mental and emotional strain with demanding circumstances is what is referred to as stress. Stress affects the mental health of a person. Many things can cause stress. People react to the causes of stress differently. Some people get stressed at their workplace. Among the things at a workstation that can lead to stressful situations are long working hours, working under dangerous conditions, and also being unhappy with the job. There are also life stresses. Under life stress, there is the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job and getting married.
Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. Meaning that one can stress themselves out by worrying about certain things. Worrying about certain issues such as the fear of uncertainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can result in stress. Stress is not something that is healthy. Hence, the need to be stress free. There are proven negative health effects of stress. Examples are a headache, fatigue, and irritability and difficulty in sleeping. Some of these conditions are vital. However, there are ways that can help a stressed person to do away with the stress.
Some of these ways are as follows. It is important that a stressed person should avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Both nicotine and caffeine are stimulants. These substances affect increasing the stress levels as opposed to the belief of reducing the stress levels. Alcohol is a depressant when taken in large quantities, however, it is not a helpful way of dealing with stress. Another way of managing stress is getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. There are also some relaxation techniques that one might try to help them reduce stress. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.
The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. The levels of these hormones can be increased further by doing exercise. It is not a must for someone to do a vigorous physical exercise to achieve this. One can even walk in fresh air. There are even better benefits of incorporating physical exercise into your daily routine.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. One of these mechanisms is through pumping of endorphins into one’s body. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. When someone exercises, they tend to forget about the irritations that they have had. The mood of a person can be improved following an exercise session. Improving the moods of a person is as a result of increased confidence, and lowering symptoms of depression.
